Saturday, July 2

Well, I could have gone running last night, except that by the time the weather had cleared, I was going out to eat. We had a terrible thunderstorm with winds and hail that amounted to about 2 inches of rain. Power was out in my area for several hours – and it came back on right as we were leaving to go out to the restaurant! I couldn’t even drive to my house because my street was blocked off. When I did get to it, I stepped out the back door and couldn’t understand what all this strange foliage was doing in my back patio.

What's all this stuff doing in my yard?

What’s all this stuff doing in my yard?

Because, you see, I didn’t have any sumac trees in my yard. Or so I thought. When I wandered out into the driveway, this greeted me.

WTF?

WTF?

Believe me that tree is a lot larger than it looks in the photo! But nothing was hit or hurt, thank goodness.

Anyways.

I did go running today around 6.15 p.m. It was partly cloudy and 80°F, with a humidity of 31 percent and a dew point of 46°F.

I walked for 2 minutes;
ran for 30 minutes;
then walked home for a total of 33 minutes.

Tuesday, June 7

Today I went on the treadmill. As I was leaving to pick up my dog from my parents’ house, I noticed dark clouds, and decided to take my running shoes with me. Apparently, there were thunderstorms in the area, so I decided to go on the treadmill, which is at their house. Too bad when I came home (in a northwesterly direction) there was the sun, shining! I suppose, however, I was somewhat vindicated when I stepped out of the car and heard thunder.

In any event, I was on the treadmill as follows.

I walked for 2 minutes;
ran for 10 minutes;
walked for 3 minutes;
ran for 10 minutes;
walked for 2 minutes for a total of 27 minutes.

Sunday, May 8

I did a short run today, as we’re celebrating (U.S.) Mother’s Day.

The sun finally came out! I’ve been so depressed I wasn’t able to drag myself out yesterday, in the rain, to go for a walk. It’s just too bad Ft. McMurray hasn’t been getting the rain we’ve been getting.

It’s 64°F and SUNNY!! Really, partly cloudy, but who cares since the sun has finally come out! Wind gusts are WNW at 18 mph.

I walked for 3 minutes;
ran for 19 minutes;
then walked home for a total of 23 minutes.

Run time: 19 minutes

Walk time: 4 minutes

I have to get it out of my head that any run is a good run, whether it’s 5 minutes or 25 minutes. For some reason I think if I can’t run my usual route, I shouldn’t run at all.

Have a great day!

Monday, October 19

I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Saturday I went kayaking with my friend on the Hudson River. We didn’t really go very far. It was kinda windy, and we got out of the river just in time to see whitecaps due to the increased wind gusts.

Sunday was pitiful. I’m sure my Canadian friend will laugh when she sees this news. Guess what we had the displeasure of seeing?

It was horribly cold and windy with snow showers. I spent most of the day bundled up in my house watching The Closer, season 4, although I did meet a friend for a hot chocolate at Barnes & Noble.

Today I went out around 4.15 p.m. It was sunny and 52°F, with a humidity of 37 percent, a dew point of 26°F, and wind gusts up to 7.6 mph. Since I didn’t do my intervals yesterday, I did them today.

I walked for 2 minutes;
ran for 10 minutes;
sprinted for 1 minute;
ran/jogged for 2 minutes;

Saturday, October 10

I went running around 4 p.m. It was sunny and 60°F, with a humidity of 49 percent and a dew point of 41°F.

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 40 minutes,
then walked back for a total of 44 minutes.

Run time: 40 minutes

Walk time: 4 minutes

I don’t know if it’s because of the shortening days, but ever since I hit 40 minutes for running, it’s been harder to get motivated to go running. I’m thinking I should mix up the mileage so that some days I have short runs and other days I have longer runs. I’m just getting frustrated with myself!

Wednesday, July 22

Today is SO much better, weather-wise! It’s just lovely out!

I went running around 4 p.m. It was mostly sunny and 79°F, with a beautiful breeze, a humidity of 37 percent (!!), a dew point of 50°F, and a heat index of 79°F.

I walked for 3 minutes;
ran for 33 minutes;
then walked home for a total of 39 minutes.

Run time: 33 minutes

Walk time: 6 minutes

Yay me! I hope y’all are enjoying some lovely weather!

Monday, June 8

Saturday I decided to take a day of rest. I went to Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park with my dog and parked at the coach house entrance. This entrance starts at Crum Elbow Creek.

The park, unfortunately, has a lot of poison ivy in it.

A paean to poison ivy.

My dog was anxious to start the trail (you can see the trail map on my page, “Trails I like”).

My sheltie, charging ahead!

When she decides she wants a break, however, you can’t move her!

I would have gone running yesterday, but I was very busy – one of my aunts is in hospice with Alzheimer’s-related problems (she’s in a coma) and my cousin is in town to help out, so we’ve been spending a lot of time together.

Today I went running around 1.20 p.m. It was mostly cloudy and 76°F, with a humidity of 62 percent, a dewpoint of 62°F, and winds S 13 mph with gusts to 22 mph.

I walked for 3 minutes;
(ran for 2 minutes; walked for 1 minute) 10 times;
ran for 5 minutes;
then walked home for a total of 41 minutes.
