Thursday, February 15

I went walking with my friend at Vassar Farms. We walked the loop pretty quickly, considering it was muddy!

Friday, February 16

I didn’t go running. I found out a friend who’d been in hospice since early January passed away. He sneezed on Thanksgiving and broke his pelvis in two places. It turned out to be bone cancer, and the tumors were everywhere. He had a bad reaction to chemo, and the doctors said that even if he beat the cancer, his pelvis would never heal. He decided he didn’t want to live like that.

This guy was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. He was practical and fun and loved music and movies. Our group also likes to play games, and he was always a fun cards partner.  He loved traveling with his family. He was 54 and leaves behind a wife and two sons in their early 20s. I’m glad he’s no longer in any pain.

I found out at the doctor’s office that I lost an additional 5 pounds, so I’ve lost nearly 30 pounds so far. I’m actually at the weight I want to be, although if I lost more weight, I wouldn’t be unhappy. I don’t think I’ve been at this weight for about 10 years. I’m so excited. 🙂

The doctor wants me to see a rheumatologist, because my ANA blood test (for autoimmune disorders) has been a little high, so I’m seeing one on June 1. They just want to rule out any (other) autoimmune diseases. As a runner, I can’t imagine they will find anything.

Friday, February 9

I went walking with my friend at Vassar Farms. Parts of the walk were tough as there was snow and ice.

Saturday and Sunday were yucky weather days – rainy and cold. Plus, we still have lots of ice around (it’s just beginning to melt). In addition, I fell on my butt in my driveway (because – ice!) Friday night, so I decided to take a breather.

I went out around 1.40 p.m. It was sunny and 39°F, with a humidity of 52 percent, a dew point of 23°F, and winds N at 10 mph (wind chill of 33°F). I still have ice in my driveway (grr!).
