Monday, October 1

Well, I’m finally back to running. I decided to take a break and consult the doctor, who basically told me to stretch more! I was swimming laps until my aunt closed her pool (we have had alternating days of air conditioning and then heat–ugh!).

I went out around 3.30 p.m. It was cloudy and 71°F, with a humidity of 72 percent, a dew point of 61°F, and winds NNE at 3 mph.

I walked for 5 minutes,
ran for 3 minutes, walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 3 minutes, walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 3 minutes, walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 3 minutes, walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 2 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 28 minutes.

Saturday, August 25

So it’s been ten days since my last run. I was hoping that rest would help my foot heal, and it still hurts (though nowhere near as much), but I miss running.

My neighbor inspired me to get out and do a short run today. I went out around 3.30 p.m. It was partly cloudy and 78°F, with a humidity of 47 percent, a dew point of 56°F, a heat index of 80°F, and winds S at 9 mph.

I walked for 2 minutes,

ran for 5 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 20 minutes.

It’s just so frustrating. Every time I get back up to a great time and pace, I get injured. I did read the book Born to Run by Christopher McDougall while I was on vacation, and I found it very witty and interesting (although as an academic editor, I also found it woefully lacking on sources and source materials). So I’m starting again with small runs and hoping to work my way up. I may just try running in 5 minute increments for while and ramp up on those.
