Monday, January 15

I hesitate to say this, for fear of Murphy’s Law (saying it will bring something worse, like a blizzard!), but I’m getting tired of running in the cold (teens and below). I had to wear “the works” again today.

I went out around 11.15 a.m. It was mostly cloudy and 19°F, with some lazy flurries and a humidity of 59 percent, a dew point of 8°F, and winds gusting N at 8 mph (wind chill of 11°F).

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 13 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 42 minutes.

Run time: 37 minutes

Walk time: 5 minutes

They are predicting snow for tomorrow, so tomorrow might be my “rest day.” However, they are also predicting snow showers for Wednesday, so we’ll see!

Sunday, January 14

Last night I was thinking that I should measure the weather in terms of how many layers I wear. So Wednesday and Thursday were 2-layer days (long-sleeved shirt, flannel jacket), Saturday was a 3-layer day (2 long-sleeved shirts, flannel jacket) with neck warmer, and today was “the works” – 2 layers of leggings, 5 layers (silk turtleneck, 2 long-sleeved shirts, flannel jacket, polyester shell), 2 neck warmers, and a hat.

I went out around 12.10 p.m. It was sunny and 18°F, with a humidity of 37 percent, a dew point of -4°F, and winds gusting NNE at 11 mph (wind chill at 6°F – hence the piling on of clothes).

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 13 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 42 minutes.

Run time: 37 minutes

Walk time: 5 minutes

So basically in less than 48 hours, we went from the 60s to the single digits. Amazing.

Sunday, January 7

I’m unsure if I’ll be able to run tomorrow, so I ran today even though it’s still cold.

It’s sunny and 13°F (although when I began my run, it was 10°F!). The humidity is 37 percent, the dewpoint is -9°F, and winds are S at 6 mph (wind chill of 3°F). It seemed to be warmer than yesterday, at least! The wind wasn’t so bad.

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 13 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 42 minutes.

Saturday, January 6

So, even though I didn’t post, I did exercise! We got snow on Thursday (maybe 3-5 inches), which although fluffy, was packed down from the wind. Shoveling was quite the workout.

Needless to say, I was sore yesterday and took a break!

Saturday, January 6

I went out around 11.10 a.m.  It was sunny and 10°F, with a humidity of 36 percent, a dew point of -12°F, and winds WNW gusting up 18 mph (wind chill of -8°F).

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 13 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 42 minutes.

Run time: 37 minutes

Walk time: 5 minutes

FYI – this is what I looked like upon my return:

I don’t know if you recognize the shell, but it’s a decades-old Ocean Pacific shell! My brother and SIL also gave me these Head Women’s Hybrid Gloves for running, and they are the best gloves I have ever worn. They even kept my hands warm today! You can also touch your phone with the gloves on, but I didn’t bring my phone today as it was too cold.

Sunday, December 31

When I lay down to do some hamstring stretches, I didn’t want to get back up again! LOL

I went out around 1.45 p.m. It was mostly cloudy and 12°F, with a humidity of 39 percent, a dew point of -8°F, and winds gusting NW at 12 mph (wind chill of -2°F). The one thing I forgot to do was put on my shell jacket so the wind wouldn’t go through me!

I walked for 2 minutes,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 12 minutes,
walked for 1 minute,
ran for 13 minutes,
then walked home for a total of 42 minutes.

Run time: 37 minutes

I actually didn’t want to go out today, but in addition to going to out tonight, I ate one and a half gluten-free waffles this morning, so I figured I could use the exercise!

Have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve!

Monday, March 30

In the words of I Refuse to Follow Your Blog‘s blogger, my weekend was, in one word, pathetic.

I was woken up by my husband at 3.30 a.m. Saturday morning. “The dog needs to go out,” he told me. I dutifully took the dog out, and stumbled back to bed. But something wasn’t right. I smelled a weird smell. Frankly, I thought one of the cats had farted (yes, that’s a thing), but it didn’t go away. I finally turned the light on and found a big pile of dog doodoo in the spare bedroom.

I didn't mean to, mum. Really I didn't!

I didn’t mean to, mum. Really I didn’t!

By the time I’d cleaned it up, I was tired but awake, so I went downstairs and watched TV while sleeping intermittently. The poor girl had to go out again in two hours, and then at 8 a.m. I called the vet. She’s now on a diet of Hill’s Science Diet I/D canned food and some antibiotics.

Saturday was cold (not as cold as February, of course!), snowy, and blustery, so I did not go out running. I did, however, do Day 2 of Yoga with Adriene (I did Day 1 on Friday).

We ended up going out Saturday night, so by the time I got to bed, it was late (midnight or so). Then I had to get up at 7 a.m. for church (I sing in our music ministry). It was still cold on Sunday, so I spent most of the day sleeping, and not running or doing yoga. In fact, I had gone grocery shopping and gotten gluten-free donuts, which are nothing like REAL wheat donuts – they are frozen, and you have to microwave them to get them soft. I had three of them by 1 p.m. I felt like The Blerch.

Today I went out around 1.30 p.m. it was mostly cloudy and 49 degrees F.

I went a different route today, which really didn’t work out because I had to run extra to make up for the shortage for which I didn’t account.

Anyways:

I walked for 5 minutes;
ran for 22 minutes;
then walked home for a total of 30 minutes.

Run time: 22 minutes

Walk time: 8 minutes

When I cool down, I’ll try Day 3 of Yoga with Adriene.

Monday, February 23

We actually got up to 40 degrees F yesterday! I was able to chip some of the ice away, too! Today it’s 22 degrees F with a wind chill of 11 degrees F, so back to the cold weather.
